INVOLVEMENT FAQ
MLA is an all-volunteer organization. Your involvement creates a stronger organization and provides you with opportunities to network professionally, develop career enhancing skills, and stay connected to broader issues affecting all Missouri libraries. It is also a fun and rewarding experience!
Most certainly! MLA encourages new members to become involved as soon as possible. You bring new enthusiasm, ideas, and energy to the organization. Use the MLA Committee Volunteer Form (coming soon) to express your interest in getting involved. He or she can help you find the right spot for your interests.
This depends on the committee or Community of Interest you join. Commitment to a committee generally varies from 2 – 4 years and the number of meetings held will depend on the goals of the committee. Contact the committee chairperson for more details.
Communities of Interest work differently. Officers in these groups usually have a three year commitment of increasing responsibility. But you are also welcome to join as a member of the Community of Interest without taking an officer role. You can find more details on the individual Community of Interest’s webpage or contact the group’s chairperson.
Of course! The Conference Coordinator is always looking for help with numerous conference-related tasks. These are usually short term commitments and include a range of activities and responsibilities that can work for the time you have available. Contact the Conference Coordinator as listed on the MLA Conference webpage.
