Library Director, Marion County Library, Subdistrict #1, Palmyra, MO
The Board of Trustees for the Marion County Library Subdistrict #1 (MCL) is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced leader to serve as Library Director upon the retirement of the current director. The MCL serves the Northeast MO community of Palmyra, MO and its surrounding areas. MCL is a dynamic, growth minded institution focused on providing relevant and innovative library services to its patrons and neighboring communities. The use of technology and thriving children’s programs have enhanced the library’s steady growth in circulation.
The Library Director will lead the staff in a professional and collaborative manner, will enthusiastically promote the library and its services to the community and its patrons and will move the library forward with a future thinking mindset. The director will possess the following qualities; creativity, intellectual curiosity, will be self-directed, have a passion for learning and growing and an extreme comfort level with all technology.
Interested candidates need to possess at least a BS in Library Sciences from an ALA accredited college/university or related field experience. Two years plus experience in library leadership is preferred.

We have an immediate need for a Paraprofessional to join the Spencer Road Branch. As a Paraprofessional you will assist adult customers with basic reference inquiries, placing reserves on materials in the district and with interlibrary loan, readers’ advisory, and library technology. Paraprofessionals develop and present engaging classes and events, as well as merchandise the collection through the creation of attractive and relevant displays. Attend community events to promote the library.

Requirements:
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to use library technology and assist others with e-readers and mobile devices
Ability to use and assist others with a variety of software packages, including Microsoft and Google

Benefits & Salary: Partial benefit package available to part time employees that includes Paid Time Off and a 457 (b) Deferred Compensation plan with employer match. Starting rate is $17.01 per hour

Good Morning All,
As you know, ALA and library advocates have been working to preserve funding for federal libraries in the face of the administration’s proposed eliminations. We are approaching a critical juncture this month, as both the House and Senate Appropriations Committees are expected to introduce their versions of the funding bills for Fiscal Year 2019. These key Congressional committees will make decisions about which programs will receive funding – including library programs like the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) and the Innovative Approaches to Literacy (IAL) program.
Senator Blunt, serves on the subcommittee that will decide the level of funding these programs receive next year. While the Senator is a big supporter of libraries, he still needs to hear from us about the importance of federal funding for libraries.
ALA, is asking us to call Senator Blunt tomorrow (Thursday, June 14), at (202) 224-5721 and say:
I am a member of the Missouri Library Association and library supporter, calling about the Labor-H Appropriations bill.
Please support Missouri’s libraries by preserving funding for the Library Services and Technology Act and the Innovative Approaches to Literacy program.
Full funding protects $3 million for libraries in our state. Those funds provide library services to children, families, veterans, small businesses, job seekers, and many others.
Please support at least $189 million for LSTA and $27 million for IAL.
They feel, with each state calling their Senator together on the same day, we make the biggest impact on Capitol Hill. Please take five minutes to call tomorrow – and help protect over $210 million that strengthens America’s libraries.
With our support last year, we were able to assist in increased funding for LSTA and protected IAL funding, even though the White House called to eliminate them. But each year is a new year, and we have to continue to show up for our libraries. Senator Blunt is a critical vote for libraries nationwide – so please call.

Perform daily Circulation Desk operations. Locate and check-out library materials, make reservations for study rooms & equipment, use wide variety of library technology. Assist library patrons in person, on the phone, and via email by answering general college related and library questions. Operate office and library specific software and hardware including Integrated Library System (SIERRA), reservations software, copiers, ID machines, printers, tablets, scanners, SMARTboards, and other devices. Process MOBIUS/ILL items, perform software & hardware troubleshooting, record and gather statistics, and work with other staff to resolve patron issues. Assist with collection maintenance, including shifting, sorting, shelving, and digital records editing. Follow state and federal library laws and regulations. Assist with cleaning and special projects.
High school diploma or equivalency required, AA or additional college strongly preferred. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills, demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail, and experience in a public service area are needed. Successful candidate will have the ability to follow directions, work with others in a collaborative and courteous manner, work independently, and take initiative. Knowledge of common office software programs is expected and a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues is required. Physical demands include bending, standing, stooping, sitting, lifting up to 25lbs, reaching, grasping, and pushing book carts up to 250lbs.
25 hours per week/42 weeks per year
Hourly Rate: $12.67 per hour
