    Mary,
Thank you for letting us know about this. The MLA Board meets this Friday, and I have brought this comment to the attention of the MLA President, in case she wishes to add it to the agenda.
    -Rachel Brekhus, MLA Web Committee

Hello, Missouri! Next week is our Library Advocacy Week. There is still plenty of space to join our orientation on Monday, February 22nd from 9:30am to Noon.

This year's advocacy event will be completely virtual. Registration will be free, but is required for orientation.

Registration for orientation is now open and you can register here: molib.wildapricot.org/event-4121445.
After you register, you will receive a link to the orientation.

If you haven't already, get in touch with your legislators and set up virtual meetings with them for the 23rd, 24th, and 25th. You can offer to host the meeting, unless they prefer to create and host the meeting themselves. Don't be offended if this is the case; we want this to be as accessible for both parties as possible, and they may prefer to set up the meeting themselves. The meetings do not need to be very long, and we recommend that you keep the meetings to less than 15 minutes. If you would like to have meetings with your legislators earlier than the 23rd, go for it. It's fine to have meetings before that week, but do keep in mind that we want to have the majority of our meetings during the week of February 22nd. Similar to visiting Jefferson City, this will be a unified effort and it will (hopefully) keep legislators' minds on libraries. You may also have the meeting over the phone, but I would strongly recommend having a virtual meeting so that your legislators and their staff know your face and connect it and you to libraries.

To find your representative(s), type in your address and city here: www.house.mo.gov/
To find your senator(s), type in your address and city here: www.senate.mo.gov/LegisLookup/Default.aspx

The Legislative Committee hopes that, by having a free, virtual advocacy week, this will give opportunities to smaller libraries or libraries that are farther away from Jefferson City. Instead of needing to set aside round trip drive time and having to pay registration, librarians can talk "face-to-face" with their legislators.

We hope to have handouts ready soon!

If you have any questions, feel free to let me know!

Happy Valentine's Day! Check out this post by ilovelibraries about the vintage valentines in the NYPL's collection. And then while you're there, explore the other cool things on the ilovelibraries site. "I Love Libraries is an initiative of the American Library Association (ALA), created to spread the world about the value of today's libraries."
